Voices from the African Savannah

On the occasion of the Kulturminnedagene 2024, The Gambian Association is inviting the Gambian spoken word artist Papa J. Jammeh to an event at Melahuset that focus on spoken word, storytelling and Manding history.

It is going to be an open event for both young and old with focus on the following:
– Spoken Word (poetry), this is recitation with soothing music like soul,reggae and soft music (kora and drums)

– Story telling for kids based on Manding Empire Folklore

– Manding history: stories of tribal migration, formation and extension of empire and many more, backed by kora sound.

– Manding instrument history (djembe, kora, xalam, tama, balafon).

The event starts at 2pm. Free entrance.
